St. Patrick’s Book Club

In our continuing efforts to provide parishioners with meaningful discussions about our faith and a greater understanding of the Bible, this fall St. Patrick’s is launching a book club. This book club will meet every two weeks on Monday nights in the Religious Ed building starting in October. For our first book, we will read Women in the Old Testament, by Sister Irene Nowell, a noted Catholic scholar and author, and director of community formation for the Benedictine sisters of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas.

Through this book, we will meet mothers and wives, queens and slaves, prophets and warriors, powerful women and victims; women whose stories offer us courage and insight. The book costs $7.95. We will order in bulk through the parish to help you avoid shipping costs. Also, any parishioner unable to attend the discussions will be able to follow along with the group through this WordPress site.

Contact Richard D’Ambrosio @ rda911us@yahoo.com for more information. We will need a final count on participants by Sept. 12.

This is a positive step in continuing the education of our newly baptized and others in the RCIA program. This may close the gap somewhat for me. Thanks

  5. This informal study will open the eyes and hearts of many, who avail themselves to it, of the many faces of God.

What did Paul say in Galatians? “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

  6. I just picked up my book. Am so glad we’re doing this and looking forward to learning more about some of the extraordinary women in the Bible. What a blessing it is to belong to such a strong faith community.
